B.A.D.D. (Bikers against Drunk Drivers)

From as far back as I can recall I have wanted to ride motorcycles. When I was 6 or 7, I remember my father rode a Triumph, and was in a club called 'The Jolly Rodgers'. I couldn't wait to grow up and ride with those guys. As the years went by my father would teach my brothers and I how to rebuild everything from British to Harley. And we spent hours talking about brotherhood etc..

But one thing I wasn't taught or prepared for was witnessing the death of a brother by a drunk truck driver. To make matters worse, he didn't die instantly, he suffered pain and anguish for two weeks. Family and friends were all brought together to share the pain and console each other. When it was over we all promised to try and change the way things were, but as time went by so did our promises. The truck driver got off with a citation and a warning!

It has been said that: 'Death caused by drunk drivers is our only socially acceptable form of homicide'. In the last ten years over 200,000 people in North America have lost their lives due to alcohol related accidents. Every adult driver has at one time or another been affected by drunk driving, I personally spent one month in hospital after being struck by a drunk taxi driver.

Media advertising continues to depict the good times etc... involved in drinking their advertiser's products and persuading and conditioning young people to drink particularly in clubs and outside the home.

B.A.D.D. was founded to educate and promote the importance of driving only when sober to pre-driving adolescents. Let's face it, most 15 year olds want to be bikers or Rock Stars, so we've taken both and created a programme that youth who are more prone to drinking and driving can really understand. We have over eighty of today's best known Stars working with us to reach teens in a way that will be most effective. We invite you to join us so that together we will definitely make our highways safer. Throughout '96 we'll be celebrating our 10th anniversary.

See you on the road!
